One dead in Monday morning accident in JC

One person died in a two vehicle accident Monday morning in Jefferson City.

Police reports show the accident occurred at 7:25 a.m.

The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of US 50/63, just west of Eastland Drive.

A 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Madison Bartle, 19, Sullivan, was initially westbound on 50/63 when it started sliding and rotating on the wet roadway.

It then continued into the median, sliding sideways with its driver side leading.

As Bartle approached the eastbound lanes, she went airborne and struck a 2006 Dodge Caravan driven by Clyde Timberlake, 82, Bernie.

Bartle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Timberlake and his passenger, James Beulah, 82, Bernie, were taken by ambulance to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia for evaluation and treatment of their injuries.

Bartle was not wearing a seat belt. It is unknown if Timberlake and Beulah were wearing their seat belts.

The investigation is ongoing by the Jefferson City Police Department Traffic Unit.
