Jefferson City's Food Code requires food-service establishments be inspected at least once every six months.
The inspections note critical and non-critical violations. Critical violations are the more serious, as they are more likely to compromise food safety and cause health problems. Critical violations often concern improper food temperatures, either on a stove/grill or in holding areas after cooking or before cooking, such as in a refrigerator. They also could involve plumbing repairs, personal hygiene, people who are sick handling food or contamination, such as pest infestations.
Non-critical violations are more minor offenses, which could deal with cleaning/maintenance of floors, walls, ceilings, open waste receptacles, unshielded light bulbs in a food preparation area or a missing thermometer in a refrigerator.
The Food Code typically requires establishments to correct critical violations at the time of inspection when possible, or within a longer time frame not to exceed 10 days agreed upon with the regulatory authority. Establishments are required to correct non-critical violations by a date agreed to with the regulatory authority not to exceed 90 days from the time of inspection.

Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 1201 Fairgrounds Road, one critical violation: commercial dishwasher not reaching correct sanitizer temperature.

McAlister's Deli, 2323 Missouri Blvd., four non-critical violations: hinge on salad make table lid not properly installed; gasket on lettuce keeper cracked; microwave has chipping and peeling on inside; floors in triple sink area and near salad make cooler chipping.
O'Donoghue's Steaks & Seafood LLC, 900 E. High St., two non-critical violations: shatter plate no clean on bulk ice maker, bottom of reach-in bar cooler not clean; base coving on floor juncture in disrepair.
