The play tells the story of the Jarrett family - the well-intentioned father, the organized and remote mother and the youngest son. The oldest son committed suicide and the play goes to the essence of the surviving son, his friends and family and their relationships and struggles for survival.

Tracy Wegman is directing the drama and chose to perform it in the round, meaning the audience will surround the stage.

This is the first time Wegman has directed for Scene One, although she has directed for other groups.

"Doing a show in the round is perfect for Scene One and our space," Wegman said. "I like the perspective that performing in the round gives and it is a challenge for the actors. They have to open to all parts of the audience."

The play is based on a book by Judith Guest and was made into an award-winning movie starring Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, Timothy Hutton and Judd Hirsch.

The cast has Alan Bailey in the role of the father and Laura Morris as the mother. Nick Gladbach plays the son.

Rounding out the cast are: Kerry Cordray, Joe Schneider, Jack Treu, Abby Ordway, Hannah Dolan and John Hardin.

Bailey, Morris, Cordray and Schneider have performed in the round in past plays. The remainder of the cast is new to this format.

"The cast has to be directed very specifically in the round," Wegman said. "They are doing well and are adapting to the challenge."

This is an intense drama and Wegman recommends it for ages 16 and up.

Mark Wegman is directing advisor and, according to Tracy, is a tremendous help.

Tracy said Mark really understands theater in the round and has mastered the details necessary to block the show.

Assistant director is Jenni Jones.

"Audiences can come every night, and because of performing it in the round will see a different show," Wegman said.
