Lincoln women win opener in comeback fashion

BOLIVAR - The Lincoln women's basketball team overcame a 7-point halftime deficit with a big third quarter Friday to defeat Ouachita Baptist 81-78 in the Southwest Baptist University Classic.

The Blue Tigers (1-0) were led by senior forward Zuri Hill, who notched a double-double with 25 points with 11 rebounds. Senior guard Lizzie Nessling scored 17 points, all coming in the second half.

Junior guard Asia McCaskill added 15 points. Junior guard Azaria Nave chipped in 14. Nessling and McCaskill each grabbed eight boards.

Lincoln and Ouachita Baptist (0-1) experienced four 10-minute four quarters for the first time in a rule change for this season.

The two teams played to a tie at 15 in the first 10 minutes. Ouchita Baptist won the second quarter, taking a 35-27 lead into the locker room. The Blue Tigers came out on an 11-3 run to regain the lead.

Ouachita Baptist pulled within one point with 30 seconds remaining when Nave was fouled. Nave made both free throws to put the Blue Tigers up by three. Ouachita Baptist couldn't get two 3-point attempts to go to hand the Blue Tigers the win.

Lincoln won the second-chance points battle 20-3 and outrebounded Ouachita Baptist by a hefty 46-28 margin.

Lincoln takes on Henderson State at 1:30 p.m. today in the Classic.
