Columbia resident Laquent Palmer was arrested for shooting a man in the face in the Westview Heights area just outside Jefferson City Saturday evening.
The Cole County Sheriff's Department and Jefferson City Police Department responded to the 1500 block of Westview Drive at about 6 p.m., finding a man with a gunshot wound to the face.
A Sheriff's Department news release said the victim was taken to University Hospital in Columbia with injuries that were not life-threatening. He was in stable condition there.
After investigators identified Palmer as the suspect, they contacted the Columbia Police Department, which located Palmer and took him into custody without incident.
The Cole County Sheriff's Department issued a search warrant on Palmer's car and residence, but have not found the weapon, believed to be a pistol.
He was booked for first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held in the Cole County Jail without bond.
