Your Opinion: Biblical disobedience repeated in America

Dear Editor:

In my daily Bible studies I have been reading in 1 Samuel the account of the people of Israel turning against God's rule over them through the judges and demanding instead a king to rule over them like the nations around them. These were the chosen people of God to be His covenant people who were given promises of blessings and protections if they would obey Him and honor Him in all their ways.

Their forefathers had experienced the miraculous delivery from Egypt through the Red Sea and eventually re-entering the Promised Land given to them through Abraham. Their king was to be the Great I Am, but as they became comfortable in their land and complacent in their fear of the One True God, they were looking at all the nations around them and did not see themselves as responsible to uphold the Word of God, but desired to be like everyone else around them. They wanted to play around with the false gods and customs of the pagans while still claiming the protection of the Great I Am, but not actually serving Him as God. The destruction and captivity of Israel was the ultimate result of their disobedience.

These are the same things that are happening in America. America was established by God Himself because of a people that were seeking a nation where the name and the Word of God could be freely honored and worshiped. Our founding Fathers have given us many blessings and protections through their labor of love to bestow for posterity's sake our God given rights and freedoms in a document called the Constitution.

We see complacency in the Church and a willingness to look away from the blatant sin in our nation and just accept it as a sign of the times, yet say we are still protected by God because we are Christians.

We have become fearful and timid because of the loud in-your-face demands for acceptance and celebration of selfish and perverted lifestyles. God places kings, presidents and judges in positions of authority for our blessing or for our judgment. We have a president, leaders and judges who are taking us to judgment if we do not wake up, fall on our knees to repent and then stand up and speak up. If not, what will be the result of America's disobedience?
