Your Opinion: Holts Summit parent faces district issue

Dear Editor:

Holts Summit should be part of New Bloomfield School District.

Why does it make sense to have Holts Summit children in the Jefferson City schools when it is a different county? Due to my son acting out this year we have found out that JC cannot discipline students who live in Holts Summit because we live in a different county and Cole County by law cannot deal with Callaway County juvenile offenders.

Also summer school does not provide bus service for high schoolers. So my 9th grader and my 7th grader are both supposed to go to Lewis and Clark for summer school but only my 7th grader can ride bus because in JC if you are poor and have no car then your kid just has to flunk because you are poor and cannot get them there.

That is wrong to punish the kids because they are poor. Change the two Holt Summit schools and keep North an elementary and make Callaway Hills a second junior high for New Bloomfield so that Holts Summit kids can at least go to school in there own county and not have to flunk because you are poor.

Our kids cannot even walk to school if they wanted to or ride a bike because they would have to ride down the side of U.S 54. This change needs to be made in my opinion for the betterment of Holts Summits children.
