Homeless man sentenced to life in prison for homicide

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) - A homeless man has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting a man to death at an Independence motel in 2013.

A Jackson County judge sentenced 38-year-old Vaughn L. Krepps Wednesday to two life sentences for second-degree murder and armed criminal action. The sentences will be served concurrently.

The Independence Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/1c72si5) court documents indicate Krepps was preparing to finish tattoo work on some people at a Super 6 motel in Independence. Witnesses told police that Krepps suddenly stood, looked at the victim, Thomas Kuether, and said, "What did you just say?" He then pulled a handgun shot Kuether.

Kuether died at an Independence hospital from a single gunshot to his abdomen.
