Local man charged after chase, fighting officer

A Jefferson City man is facing several charges in connection with a pursuit with authorities Monday night.

Garrett Depenthal, 21, of 2769 Southridge Court, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, DWI and operating a motorcycle without a valid license.

Court records show a Cole County Sheriff's Department deputy saw Depenthal in the 2800 block of Route C, just after 11 p.m., and clocked him with his radar unit going 96 mph in a 50 mph zone.

The deputy turned on his siren and emergency lights, but Depenthal did not stop until he reached his residence on Southridge Court.

He got off his motorcycle and despite several commands from the deputy to get on the ground, Depenthal failed to comply.

The deputy then took Depenthal down using an arm-bar take down and the two began wrestling on the ground.

The deputy eventually got up and used his Taser on Depenthal, who then grabbed the wiring from the Taser cartridge and broke it.

The two continued to struggle and Depenthal knocked a pepper spray canister out of the deputy's hand in the process.

Other deputies arrived on the scene and were able to take Depenthal into custody.

During a search of Depenthal, deputies found he had concealed a knife in the front of his pants.
