Two residents evacuated their Jefferson City home safely this morning after fire of unknown origin broke out in an upstairs family room.
The Jefferson City Fire Department was called shortly before 2:30 a.m. to a structure fire at 1409 Dixon Road. Firefighters discovered smoke showing upon their arrival.
Department spokesman Jason Turner said a mother and daughter in the house were awakened by a loud bang and then smoke alarms sounding before escaping. No one was hurt. Turner said they believe an electrical problem may have started the fire.
Fire damage was confined to the room where the blaze started. There was moderate smoke damage to the rest of the house, Turner said.
