Holiday inn Express breaks ground in Kingdom City

KINGDOM CITY, Mo. -- A new hotel is coming soon at I-70 and U.S. 54. A Holiday Inn Express will be located near McDonald's in Kingdom City, between the Phillips 66 station and Carpet Values.

The hotel is owned by Warrenton Oil, which is famous for Phillips 66 gas stations. Construction crews are building this hotel from scratch at the new site because the current Best Western, owned by the same company, needs some updates.

Scott Meislin, general manager of the Super 8 Kingdom City hotel, said "there are a few significant reasons to build this hotel in Kingdom City."

Meislin mentioned the new hotel will cater to traffic along I-70 and normal highway traffic, pick up over-flow travelers from Columbia and bring in more tourists from Mexico.

"It makes sense to have the hotel in Kingdom City and in Fulton because each will get overflow from the other," said Meislin.

Meislin estimated construction on the site should be completed sometime between October and January of next year.
