JC man gets 25 years for burglary

A Jefferson City man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after a two-day trial in February when a Cole County jury found him guilty of first-degree burglary for events that occurred on April 18, 2013.

On that date, Antwain Stewart, 38, entered the victim's home in the 100 block of North Ventura Avenue through the rear door, went upstairs to the victim's bedroom, took off his pants and tried to get into the bed with the victim, who was sound asleep and did not know Stewart. The victim turned her lights on; and, when she saw Stewart's face, she led him out of her home at knife-point. Shortly thereafter, Jefferson City police officers located and took him into custody.

Stewart committed this crime, domestic assault in the third degree, and stealing shortly after arriving in Jefferson City and shortly after being released from prison, where he served approximately 20 years for second-degree murder, armed criminal action, escape or attempted escape from prison and unlawful use of a weapon.
