Little girl hurt in lawn mower accident

HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. - A 4-year-old girl was airlifted to a Columbia hospital for injuries sustained in a riding lawn mower accident Tuesday afternoon. Holts Summit Police Sgt. Marc Haycook described the incident as uncommon.

"This type of incident is extremely rare. I can't think of the last time we've responded to something like this," Haycook said.

Haycook said officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 4:27 p.m. Tuesday on the 100 block of North Summit Drive in Holts Summit. Officers arrived first to the scene and engaged in emergency first-aid procedures until an ambulance from the Callaway Ambulance district arrived.

Medics transported the girl to Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, where she was taken by helicopter to Columbia.

A shift supervisor for the Callaway Ambulance District declined to speak on the incident. No further details on the girl's identity or condition were available by press time Tuesday night.
