Flashback with retro fashion

Jefferson City Academic Center is presenting its third retro fashion show, "Fashion Never Fades," which will feature styles from the '50s through the '80s.

The show is produced by the textile class, but the entire school takes a part in the production from helping backstage to collecting the music to acting as the audience.

Faculty members also serve as models and help organize the show.

According to director Lori Rosburg, this began as a way for the class to give back to the community and to show the history and process of textiles.

"Merrell University students joined the project to provide makeup and hairstyle, and the Salvation Army helps with finding retro fashions from those donated to them. The students also go to garage sales and auctions to find items," Rosburg said.

JCAC works on various projects for the Salvation Army, such as taking donated Barbie dolls and cleaning them up and making clothes for them.

Donations from the show go to Salvation Army.

This year the show features stage clothes provided by singer Leonna Williams. She recently moved to Vienna and has provided some costumes that she wore on stage when singing backup for Loretta Lynn, Merl Haggard and George Jones.

"This event helps the students learn to work together on a project. They have to step out of their comfort zones and it builds confidence. Some of the models have never been on stage, and this gives them an incentive to be a part of something bigger than themselves," Rosburg said.
