Jeff Warren, a letterwinner for the Missouri men's basketball team from 1989-93, passed away Friday from lymphoma at the age of 44.
Warren, a 6-8 forward from Litchfield, Mich., averaged 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game at Missouri. He served as team captain on the 1992-93 team that won the Big Eight Tournament title.
"The Mizzou basketball family and Tiger Nation mourns the loss of one of the greatest individuals in the history of our program," Missouri head coach Kim Anderson said in a statement. "Jeff Warren made coaching fun. He was one of the hardest workers and best teammates I have ever been around."
Anderson was an assistant under Norm Stewart for Warren's final two seasons with the Tigers.
Warren holds the Missouri record for consecutive field goals made with 24, hit during a four-game stretch in the 1991-92 season. Warren shot 61.4 percent from the field in his four years, good enough for second all-time. He held the record until Ricardo Ratliffe put up a mark of .635 from 2010-12.
"I am thankful for the time I had with him and on behalf of our current and former players, as well as staff members, we send our thoughts and prayers to his family. We thank Jeff for letting us be a part of his life," Anderson said.
Arrangements for memorial services will be announced when available.
