JCPD investigate shots fired on West McCarty Street

The Jefferson City Police Department is investigating an incident where shots were fired Monday night on West McCarty Street.

According to a release from the department, police responded to the 1100 block of West McCarty Street at about 10:45 p.m. Monday after receiving numerous calls from area residents who stated they heard four or five gunshots. Police also located a witness who observed people fleeing from the area on foot after the shots were fired.

Officers found four spent shell casings in the road and located four males who fled the area, two of whom were 17 and 18, and the other two were 14-year-old juveniles. The four males gave statements that a passenger vehicle drove by and exchanged words with them. At the end of the exchange, one suspect who was described only as a black male fired several shots from a handgun at them.

No one was struck or injured.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and asking anyone with information to contact the department at 634-6400 or the Jefferson City Area CrimeStoppers at 659-TIPS.
