WESTPHALIA - The Helias freshman baseball team went 1-1 against Fatima on Monday, falling 4-2 before defeating the Comets 5-3.
In the opener, Zach Carr took the loss for Helias while striking out five. Andrew Hasenbeck drove in Landon Harrison with a single, and Jeremiah Heckman scored on an error.
In the nightcap, Harrison pitched five innings for the win and had a double at the plate. Carr, Heckman, Brandon Ferguson, Parker Schnieders and Austin Fennewald each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
On Saturday, the Crusaders won the Mexico Freshman Tournament, defeating Hannibal 17-4 and Eldon 2-0.
In the first-round game, a five-inning contest, Ferguson took the win and struck out four.
In the championship game, Alex Buschjost threw a three-hit complete-game shutout for the victory. Heckman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Dylan Hood also had a hit and an RBI.
Helias (16-8) plays Warrenton at 4 p.m. today at PAL Field.
