Lincoln women finish third in MIAA outdoor track

Blue Tiger men take fourth

ST. CHARLES - The Lincoln women finished third and the men were fourth in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships that wrapped up Sunday.

The Lincoln women saw their four-year run atop the MIAA come to an end in the event at Lindenwood University, as Pittsburg State won the title with 169.5 points. Central Missouri was second with 154 and Lincoln had 133.

The rest of the field included Southwest Baptist (58), Missouri Southern (54), Nebraska-Kearney (43), Northwest Missouri State (43), Emporia State (36), Lindenwood (35.5), Fort Hays State (30) and Central Oklahoma (24).

Pittsburg State also won the men's portion of the meet, racking up 139 points. Missouri Southern (127), Central Missouri (111) and Lincoln (78) rounded out the top four.

The rest of the men's field included Fort Hays State (77), Emporia State (76), Nebraska-Kearney (62), Lindenwood (60), Southwest Baptist (47) and Northwest Missouri State (42).

The Lincoln women won six events at the Championships.

Jhevere Hall won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:08.58, shattering the meet record of 2:09.66 set by Lincoln's Lovan Palmer in 2013. Hall's time was also a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.

Janae Johnson won a double-winner, taking first in the 100-meter dash in 11.49, an automatic qualifying time, and winning the 200-meter dash with a provisional mark of 23.71.

The final individual win came from Ladonna Richards in the 100-meter hurdles (13.22).

Lincoln's 4x100-meter relay team of Kimberly Bailey, Keja Christie, Yanique Ellington and Johnson won in a provisional time of 45.80. The Blue Tigers' 4x400-meter relay team of Ebony Rose, Hall, Monique Thompson and Willomena Williams was first in a provisional time of 3:44.68.

Lincoln also had four second-place finishes, with Ellington getting two of them. She was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 11.68 and the 200-meter dash in 23.95, both provisional marks. Richards was second in the 400-meter hurdles at 59.75, a provisional mark, and Williams was second in the 400-meter dash with a provisional mark of 55.33.

Also for Lincoln, Palmer was third in the 400-meter dash with a provisional mark of 55.40 and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.55); Thompson was third in the 800-meter run with a provisonal mark of 2:10.64 and third in the 1,500-meter run (4:44.45); Christie was fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.88 and sixth in the 200-meter dash in 24.40, both provisional marks; and Jonelle Campbell was fourth in the triple jump with a provisional mark of 40-4.

In addition, Hall was sixth in the 1,500-meter run (4:47.85), Rose was sixth in the 400-meter dash (56.40), Adewumi Ademuwagun was seventh in the 100-meter dash (12.20) and Bailey was eighth in the 100-meter dash (12.47).

Also at the meet, Missouri Southern's Adelene Mengwasser was seventh in the 5,000-meter run (18:50.21); Pittsburg State's Kezia Martin (Jefferson City High School) was eighth in the triple jump at 38-93/4, a provisional mark; Missouri Southern's Melanie Bower (Linn High School) was eighth in the pole vault at 12-11/4, a provisional mark; and Southwest Baptist's Emily Cumpton (Blair Oaks High School) was eighth in the 10,000-meter run (39:53.89).

The Lincoln men picked up three victories. Sedeekie Edie won the long jump with a leap of 25-11/4, an automatic qualifying mark; Miguel Barton won the 400-meter dash in a provisional time of 47.68; and Lincoln's 4x400-meter relay team of Roger Blake, Winson Edwards, Barton and Jeromia Riley won in a provisional time of 3:11.91.

Also posting provisional marks or times were Barton, second in the 200-meter dash in 20.86; Riley, second in the 800-meter run at 1:51.36; Owen Smith, second in the triple jump at 49-5; and Edwards, third in the 400-meter hurdles at 52.69.

Among the other results, Darran Hunter was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (53.95), Edie was fifth in the triple jump (47-9 3/4), Wesley Best was fifth in the 100-meter dash (10.58) and Romone Hill was sixth in the 100-meter dash (10.61)

Missouri Southern's William Rush (Linn High School) was sixth in the 5,000-meter run (15:35.93) and also for the Lions, Tom Zeilman (Fatima High School) was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that took seventh (3:16.52).

The Division II Championships are set for May 21-23 in Allendale, Mich., on the campus of Grand Valley State University.
