Jays trio advance to Class 4 golf sectional

NEW BLOOMFIELD - The quality of the field in the Class 4 District 5 Tournament was evident in the final team scores Monday.

The Jefferson City Jays totaled a 315, an average of just under 79 per player, to finish fourth in the 10-team event at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club.

Defending state champion Rock Bridge captured team honors with a 292. Glendale was second with a 304, with Camdenton taking third with a 309.

Three Jays earned all-district honors by finishing in the top 15 individuals. Andrew Hansen and Gabe Trowbridge finished tied for seventh with 75s, while Nate Erickson tied for ninth with a 76.

The trio advance to next Monday's sectional tournament at Old Kinderhook in Camdenton.

Brett Trowbridge of the Jays finished in a tie for 25th with an 85, while Jimmy Spath tied for 41st with a 96.

Jack Knoesel of Rock Bridge took medalist honors with a 2-under-par 69.

Matt Echelmeier of Rock Bridge and Michael Pfitzer of Camdenton tied for second with 71s.

As the top two finishers, Rock Bridge and Glendale claimed the team spots at the sectional. Camdenton, which advanced four individuals to sectional, will also post a team score next Monday.
