KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A lack of interest has forced the organizers of a Kansas City banquet to honor members of the military and their families to postpone the inaugural event.
The Kansas City Armed Forces Day banquet scheduled for May 16 was to be a first-of-its kind event in the city in which organizers hoped to bring together hundreds of active duty military personnel, reservists, veterans and their families.
Jack Barnes, president of the American Fallen Warrior Memorial Foundation, called the decision to postpone the event "gut-wrenching." A news release says inadequate funding and fewer-than-expected reservations forced the move.
Barnes says the foundation remains committed to building a memorial for fallen soldiers from the Gulf War to the present.
