Jays beat Glendale, fall to Webb City

WEBB CITY, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays baseball team split two games at Webb City on Saturday, winning 6-4 against Glendale and losing 8-2 to Webb City.

In the opener, the Jays scored four runs in the opening inning but failed to score a run in the next four innings. Meanwhile, Glendale put up one in the second and three in the fifth to tie the game. In the bottom of the sixth, the Jays ended the drought with two runs and held Glendale scoreless in the final half frame.

Allan Roettgen and Gaven Strobel led the Jays with two hits apiece, and Adam Grunden and Bryce Beckley accounted for the Jays' two RBIs.

Jacob Weirich pitched all seven innings for the Jays, striking out nine and allowing three hits and two earned runs.

Against Webb City, Jefferson City struck first again, scoring two runs in the second inning. Those were the last runs the Jays would score, however, and Webb City scored in each of its final three innings to run away with the victory.

Ripken Dodson and Grant Wood each had two hits for the Jays. Grunden threw all seven innings and struck out one, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs.

The Jays (15-10) host Rock Bridge on Tuesday.
