Helias to hold prom today

Helias Catholic High School is holding its junior/senior prom today at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

Eleven young women - Taryne Barton, Kaitlin Gallatin, Lauren Highfill, Savanna Hoelscher, Mary Alice Howser, Jenna Kosmatka, Jane McCurren, Anna Porting, Laura Schieber, Kendall Smith and Brandi Zanders - were chosen as candidates for the royal court.

Three were selected as 2015's "Prom Princesses." They include:

Brandi Zanders, daughter of Jennifer Martin and Byron Dixon, has been selected as Student of the Month both at Helias Catholic High School and by the Council for Drug Free Youth. She is a Helias student ambassador; a member of Zonta, where she serves as historian; a Club International member; and leads the school's recycling program. She also volunteers at the Salvation Army and the Special Learning Center.

Lauren Highfill, daughter of Dale and Brandi Highfill, is a varsity tennis player, a member of the National Honors Society, SADD and the Luke 18 Retreat Team. She serves on the Helias Honor Council. She was named Student of the Month by Helias and the Council of Clubs. She has gone on the St. Louis and Cape Girardeau mission trips, has attended Missouri Girl's State, and enjoys cooking and serving at the Salvation Army.

Laura Schieber, daughter of Kevin and Martha Schieber, is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, Younglife, Crusaders for Life, SADD, Club International and Ping Pong Club. She was selected as the Council of Clubs Student of the Month. She was co-captain of the varsity volleyball team and co-captain of the varsity track and field team and academic all-state. She has been on 3 mission trips for Helias and volunteers as a group leader and speaker for the St. Joseph Luke 18 and Timothy 4 retreats.
