Bryan Wolford began his job as assistant city attorney for Jefferson City a month ago and even though he's been on the job a short time he's very familiar with the city.

The native of California, Mo., said when he was a kid his family and friends considered themselves as living in a suburb of the Capital City.

"Going to town meant you came to Jefferson City," he said.

Before coming to work for the city, Wolford had his own law practice for five years where he did family and criminal law work.

"In this job, I'll help City Attorney Drew Hilpert in any way I can," he said. "As a municipal attorney, you basically work at a small firm for one client and that's the city. The city had a wide range of legal issues such as looking over contracts and ordinances for possible revisement. The state is doing a rewrite of the criminal code which will require us to look at our criminal code and see if there are any elements of offenses that are not consistent with what the state has put out. Also, up on the hill, they'll make laws that affect the way a city can regulate a certain thing."

When he's not working Wolford said he keeps busy with his family which includes his wife, three children and two stepchildren.
