Tigers drop rubber game to Aggies

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M baseball team took the rubber match of its three-game series with Missouri, as the Aggies dropped the Tigers 14-6 on Sunday.

While the Aggies never trailed in the contest, a nine-run bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference. Texas A&M led 1-0 after one inning, 3-0 after two, 4-0 after three and 5-0 after five before the sixth-inning explosion made it 14-0.

That's when Missouri's bats woke up, as the Tigers put together a five-run seventh before closing out their scoring witha run in the ninth.

The teams combined for 30 hits, with Texas A&M holding a 17-13 edge.

Jake Ring had three hits and one RBI to lead Missouri, while Josh Lester had two hits and one RBI. Case Munson chipped in with one hit and two RBI, Brett Bond and Trey Harris had two hits apiece and Ryan Howard drove in a pair of runs.

Peter Fairbanks (2-3), the first of six Missouri pitchers, took the loss. He allowed four runs (three earned) in three innings. He gave up six hits, walked one and struck out five.

The Aggies are now 27-2 on the season, including 7-2 in the Southeastern Conference.

The Tigers, who fall to 20-9 and 6-3, return to action Tuesday against Illinois. The game is set for a 6:35 p.m. start at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill.
