Columbia College softball wins two

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Columbia College Cougars cruised to a pair of wins at Hope International University on Friday, winning 13-0 in five innings and 11-4.

Paxton Welch (Helias High School) twirled a no-hitter in the opener, walking just one while striking out two.

Allyson Metz (Jefferson City High School) had two hits, including a three-run home run, and four RBI to pace Columbia on offense. Paige Kleffner (Blair Oaks High School) came on as a pinch runner and scored a run.

In the second game, Metz racked up two hits and one RBI and Dakota Newton (Jefferson City High School) drove in one run.

Columbia improved to 12-11 on the season, while Hope dropped to 8-35. The Cougars return to action Tuesday when they host crosstown foe Stephens College.
