Postseason streak comes to close for Missouri women

Fall to Michigan in WNIT

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Three road games was one too many for the Missouri women's basketball team.

The Tigers fell to Michigan on Thursday in the third round of the WNIT, 65-55. The Tigers had previously defeated Northern Iowa and Kansas State on their home courts during the tournament.

The postseason run was the furthest for the Tigers since 2003, when Missouri reached the WNIT quarterfinals. The Tigers end this season with a 19-14 record - their most wins since putting up 21 in the 2005-06 season.

Junior Maddie Stock scored 10 points in the first half and the Tigers led 33-28 at intermission, thanks in part to two eight-point runs. Morgan Stock hit a 3-pointer with one second to go in the half, assisted by Maddie Stock.

Maddie Stock finished with 13 points, one shy of teammate Jordan Frericks' game-high 14.

One game after she tied a WNIT record with nine 3-pointers against Kansas State, senior Morgan Eye was held to 2-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. Missouri shot 35.5 percent overall and just 22.2 percent from 3-point range.

Eye, who finished with six points, ended her career at Missouri with 1,374 points and 367 3-pointers. That left Eye just short of the NCAA Division I record of 392 career 3s put up by Kansas State's Laurie Koehn from 2002-05. The all-divisions record is by Division II West Liberty's Lauren Malernee, who had 441 from 2008-11.

Bree Fowler, who had two points, is also a senior for the Tigers.

The Wolverines opened the second half with a 10-2 run to grab the lead, their first since 2:41 remained in the first half.

Missouri got within a point twice - on a Fowler layup with 13:36 to play and a Frericks jumper 50 seconds later - but was never able to even the score.

Michigan used a 10-0 run to distance itself from the Tigers, who went 5:39 without scoring. The Wolverines hit 7-of-9 free throw attempts down the stretch to prevent Missouri from rallying.

Michigan had five players in double figures, including Cyesha Goree, who racked up a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Michigan improved to 19-14 and will face Southern Miss in the WNIT quarterfinals Sunday.
