Two charged in car shooting

Two Jefferson City men have been charged with shooting at an occupied vehicle on Thursday night.

Aaron Newsome, 30, of 2309 South Ridge, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Elroy Newsome, 29, of 5117 South Brooks, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

Court documents show Aaron fired four shots from a .32-caliber handgun at a vehicle at the intersection of East Elm Street and Vetter Lane.

Elroy was the driver of the vehicle that Aaron was in when he fired the gun. Officers also found marijuana under Elroy's driver's seat. He has a history of narcotics activity in Jefferson City.

One bullet struck the rear hatch of the vehicle and another struck a quarter side panel.

The victim was able to identify Aaron as the gunman, saying he fired the weapon from the vehicle and at least twice while standing outside the vehicle.

Officers were told the shooting occurred because of an argument between the victim and Newsome, but did not say what the argument was about.

Another witness said Aaron got the gun the same day he used it in this incident.
