Assault, drug charges filed in crash

A Holts Summit man is facing charges in connection with a February vehicle crash in Jefferson City.

Jason Winters, 37, is charged with second-degree assault and possession of a controlled substance.

The crash occurred at Missouri Boulevard and West Stadium Boulevard.

Winters was stopped at a red light on Missouri and began to turn left onto West Stadium while the light was still red.

He turned in front of another vehicle causing the crash and also struck another vehicle before hitting a guardrail.

The driver of the first vehicle was treated for injuries.

Winters had slurred speech when officers talked with him and told them he had earlier smoked K2, a synthetic form of marijuana.

A search of Winters' vehicle found six bags of open K2 in his wallet and a pipe and metal rod used to smoke the substance.
