Lincoln softball comes back to split doubleheader

Down 7-0 heading into the bottom of the second inning of the second game of Saturday's softball doubleheader, the Lincoln Blue Tigers responded.

Lincoln scored five times in that inning, then added single runs in the third and fifth to tie the game before scoring in the seventh to defeat Nebraska-Kearney 8-7 at Lincoln Field.

In the top of the seventh, Nebraska-Kearney used a leadoff walk, stolen base and wild pitch to put a runner on third with nobody out and the game tied at 7. But two groundouts and a fly out ended the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Jessica Wolken drew a one-out walk before Megan Heimbaugh singled to put runners at first and second. Allyson Corry then singled to plate Wolken with the game-winner.

Sam Kircher's two-run single keyed Lincoln's five-run second inning. Wolken, Heimbaugh and Corry also had RBI in the inning.

Lincoln made it 7-6 in the third when Spencer Silva scored on an error, then tied it in the fifth when Silva led off the inning with a home run to right-center.

Corry went 5-for-5 to key Lincoln's 11-hit attack. Kircher and Silva added two hits each.

Lauren Stamp went the distance to get the victory, her first of the season. She allowed six earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two.

In the first game, Nebraska-Kearney scored seven runs in the top of the first inning on its way to a 9-3 victory.

Nebraska-Kearney totaled 17 hits in the game.

Kircher drove in all three of Lincoln's runs. Two came on a double in the third and the other on a bases-loaded walk in the seventh.

Lincoln (3-21 overall, 2-10 Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association) is back in action Tuesday in a home non-conference doubleheader against Missouri S&T. The first game is slated for a 2 p.m. start.

Nebraska-Kearney is now 6-17, 5-7.
