Lincoln drops doubleheader to Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Lincoln Blue Tigers dropped a baseball doubleheader Saturday to the Southwest Baptist Bearcats by scores of 12-8 and 10-8.

In the opener, Trevor Schnieders belted a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to give Lincoln the lead. But Southwest Baptist answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, then added three more in the second to make it 7-3.

Kaleb Davis and Schnieders had RBI doubles in the third to cut the deficit to 7-5. But Southwest Baptist added a single run in the fourth and four in the fifth to make it 12-5.

Lincoln scored three times in the sixth. Dillon Walker drove home one of the runs with a double, while the other two scored on an error.

Walker, Davis, Schnieders and Kolton Clark all had two hits for Lincoln. Davis scored three times, while B.J. Nesbitt scored twice.

Tyler Roberts took the loss for Lincoln, working the first four innings. He allowed 11 runs (seven earned) on seven hits and six walks. He struck out one. Dalton Goings worked the final two frames, giving up a run.

In the second game, Southwest Baptist scored single runs in each of its last three innings to get the victory.

The game was tied at 7 after four innings.

Lincoln scored twice in the second on an RBI grounder by Nick Lovell and an error. The Blue Tigers plated three runs in the third on a passed ball, a double by Schnieders and a single by Dylan Koehler. In the fourth, Schnieders drove home a pair of runs on a single.

Both teams scored runs in the sixth, with Lincoln's coming home on a grounder by Nesbitt.

Schnieders finished with three of Lincoln's eight hits. He also scored twice. Walker and Clark also scored two runs each, while Koehler had two hits.

Caleb Thomas took the loss in relief of Adam Stegeman. Stegeman pitched the first 31/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits and walk. He struck out one. Thomas pitched the next 31/3, giving up two unearned runs on two hits and four walks while striking out five. Goings and Jameson Mahan also pitched f.

Lincoln (1-17 overall, 1-11 Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association) is back in action with a home non-conference doubleheader Wednesday against William Jewell. Southwest Baptist is now 9-13, 6-10.
