Jefferson City's Food Code requires food-service establishments be inspected at least once every six months.
The inspections note critical and non-critical violations.
Critical violations are the more serious, as they are more likely to compromise food safety and cause health problems. Critical violations often concern improper food temperatures, either on a stove/grill or in holding areas after cooking or before cooking, such as in a refrigerator. They also could involve plumbing repairs, personal hygiene, people who are sick handling food or contamination, such as pest infestations.
Non-critical violations are more minor offenses, which could deal with cleaning/maintenance of floors, walls, ceilings, open waste receptacles, unshielded light bulbs in a food preparation area or a missing thermometer in a refrigerator.
The Food Code typically requires establishments to correct critical violations at the time of inspection when possible, or within a longer time frame not to exceed 10 days agreed upon with the regulatory authority. Establishments are required to correct non-critical violations by a date agreed to with the regulatory authority not to exceed 90 days from the time of inspection.
The February 2015 inspections noted:
American Legion, 1423 Tanner Bridge Road, four non-critical violations: food debris/water on insert pans below steam table, back of mixer and base of fry station; food debris on floor under cook line equipment and steam table; food debris on wall behind commercial mixer/work table; dust on wall above stock pots.
Tolson Drug Food Snack Bar, 226 E. High St., three non-critical violations: fan covers have hanging dust present; no sanitizer test kit present; broken paper towel holder at food prep hand-wash sink.
Break Time No. 3043, 810 Stadium Blvd., one non-critical violation: walk-in cooler ceiling and fan covers soiled.
Break Time No. 3044, four non-critical violations: light bulbs in walk-in cooler provide insufficient lighting for cleaning; drain board on triple ware washing sink is rusty and has food spills and damaged items present; unprotected bulbs over triple ware washing sink; unprotected bulbs in walk-in cooler above open frank boxes.
Break Time No. 3049, 1200 Missouri Blvd., three non-critical violations: walk-in cooler fan covers had dust accumulation; Nestle freezer tracks have debris; no covered trash can present in restroom.
Break Time No. 3118, 326 Ellis Blvd., three non-critical violations: lights over triple sink unprotected; metal stem product thermometer not available for use; no test kit for sanitizer present.
Convenient Food Mart; 701 Eastland Drive, six non-critical violations: utensils stored in hand sink; debris on fan covers in walk-in cooler, reach-in cooler and Master Bilt cooler; tracks of Hushmann chest have debris present; debris on shelves of Master Bilt; doors of donut cabinet have food debris present; soda machine has debris and splatter present.
Dollar General Store No. 1219, 1414 Missouri Blvd., four non-critical violations: seal on True cooler torn; pasta loose on shelf; debris in track of True Coca-Cola cooler; no paper towels at hand sink.
Everest Cafe and Bar, 2403 Missouri Blvd., five non-critical violations: rice containers uncovered and no lids present during storage; items in walk-in cooler not date-labeled; microwave had food debris and splatter present; back splash had food debris present; soda machine had debris in drain tray and around nozzle.
Everyday Convenience Store, 910 Fairgrounds Road, four non-critical violations: walk-in cooler floor in front of display shelves littered with fallen bottles, cans, etc.; leak present in garbage disposal under hand-wash sink in back cabinet; leak present with standing water in pan under Pepsi/slushie machine in counter cabinet; counter shelving under Pepsi/slushie machine has loose, peeling vinyl strip.
Johnny's Pizza & Steakhouse, 2102 Missouri Blvd., four non-critical violations: floor tile base damaged under commercial dishwasher; food debris present on wire rack in walk-in cooler and on can opener; light cover not present over light above dry goods storage; dust on ceiling tiles in kitchen area.
Mel's Country Cafe Inc., 2421 Industrial Drive, no violations.
Mosers Discount Foods - Grocery, 2411 Missouri Blvd., two non-critical violations: spilled food items in upright freezers; loose pasta and cereal in bagged cereal and pasta area.
Papa Johns Pizza USA, Inc., 2103 Missouri Blvd., one non-critical violation: boxes stored on floor.
Phillips 66 MPC No. 47, 301 Ellis Blvd., four non-critical violations: food stored under shelving with clearance items present, including chemicals; no thermometer readily available for managers to check food or equipment temperatures; unprotected light bulb over ice-packing station; thermometer missing from Hots cabinet.
Red Lobster No. 633, 3519 Country Club Drive, eight non-critical violations: ice scoop has cracks in it (manager stated she has one on order); pre-soak dispenser had leaking water line; drain line in dish station area had plumbing leak; Alley ice bath had leaking plumbing line near drain; gasket on ice machine door torn and in disrepair; gasket on Alley refrigerator No. 1 torn; tracks for thaw rack had food debris present; soda machine had debris present.

Spectators Sports Bar and Billiards, 232 E. High St., two non-critical violations: epoxy kitchen floor has cracks and missing patches; water below 100 degrees available at kitchen triple sink and hand-wash sink.

Schulte's Fresh Foods - Deli, 1904 Southwest Blvd., three non-critical violations: deli kitchen floor has chipped, missing spots in epoxy surface covering; some food for sale in Grab n Go section of sandwich cold case does not have weight or ingredient statement present; light bulbs in walk-in cooler unprotected.
