St. Charles overcomes Hillcrest 74-69 for Class 4 title

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Casey Teson scored 35 points and Chase Morfeld added 20 to lift St. Charles past Hillcrest 74-69 in the Class 4 boys basketball championship Saturday.

St. Charles (28-4) overcame a 21-point deficit thanks largely to Teson, whose 29-point second half broke the title-game record. The senior's two free throws with 2:15 left gave the Pirates a 66-64 lead, their first advantage of the game.

Brady Petry finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds for the Hornets (19-13), who led 39-18 1:39 before halftime after Cole Pryor drained a 3-pointer. Petry fouled out, though, with 2:27 remaining and committed eight turnovers.

Seeing both their team take the lead and Petry fouling out sent St. Charles' fans into a frenzy, and they never stopped cheering until the final buzzer sounded, giving the school its second-ever title.
