Missouri baseball tops No. 6 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri baseball team beat a top-10 team for the first time in more than a year Friday, defeating No. 6 South Carolina 3-2 at Taylor Stadium.

The Tigers, ranked No. 26 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll, improved to 4-0 in Southeastern Conference play on the year and 17-5 overall.

Junior Reggie McClain threw 8 1/3 innings for the Tigers, allowing just five hits and two earned runs. He struck out three to go with one walk and earned his fourth win of the season. He retired 12 straight batters at one point and improved his opponent batting average to .189.

Freshman Trey Harris drove in two runs with a second-inning single. He has seven RBI in four SEC games. Junior Zach Lavy drove in Missouri's third run with a two-out single in the seventh inning.

South Carolina put up the first run of the game when Kyle Martin singled in Max Sckrock with a first-inning single.

Missouri has won seven of its last eight games and is off to its best conference start in three SEC seasons. South Carolina fell to 17-5 overall and 3-1 in SEC play.

The Tigers and Gamecocks play again at 2:30 p.m. today (SEC Network) at Taylor Stadium.
