Lincoln softball drops to 2-20 on year

The Lincoln softball team fell to 2-20 on the season with two losses to Fort Hays State on Friday at Lincoln Field.

The Blue Tigers, who fell by scores of 11-4 and 8-0, were outhit 25-11 on the day.

In the opener, Lincoln pitcher Macie Kinsey allowed a run in the first and fourth innings, but the Blue Tigers answered with a four-run bottom of the fourth. Kassidey Borland singled in Kinsey and Spencer Silva, and Madison Gooden scored on a throwing error. Jessica Wolken's double plated Borland.

Fort Hays State's response was a bit stronger, however. The Tigers scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to secure the final edge.

Kinsey allowed nine runs - eight earned - on eight hits in her four-plus innings. Madison Ragar, who relieved Kinsey in the fifth, allowed two runs on five hits.

Kinsey led Lincoln with two hits, and she, Silva, Gooden and Borland all scored runs. Borland had two RBI.

Fort Hays State had three players with two or more RBI and nine players notched a hit.

Paxton Duran allowed four runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits. Sarah Cochran was perfect except for a hit-by-pitch in her three innings of relief.

In the second game, a game shortened to six innings due to the run rule, the Tigers put up four runs in the second inning and never looked back, scoring in the third and sixth as well and keeping the Blue Tigers off the basepaths in four of the six innings.

Lauren Stamp allowed five earned runs on nine hits and a walk for Lincoln, and Ragar gave up three earned runs on as many hits in relief, walking two.

Borland, Wolken, Spencer and Sam Kircher had the Blue Tigers' hits.

Lincoln (1-9 Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association) continues conference play at noon today with a home twinbill against Nebraska-Kearney.
