Houdashelt lone Tiger with chance for championship

ST. LOUIS - Drake Houdashelt of Missouri will wrestle for the NCAA title at 149 pounds after capturing his semifinal Friday night.

Houdashelt defeated Christopher Villalonga of Cornell 4-0 to advance to tonight's championship match.

Houdashelt, who defeated Alexander Richardson of Old Dominion 10-0 in Friday's quarterfinals, will take on David Habat of Edinboro for the title. Houdashelt (36-1) is the No. 1 seed at the weight, while Habat (36-2) is seeded third.

Two other Tigers dropped their semifinal matches Friday.

At 125 pounds, Alan Waters (33-1) suffered his first loss of the season when he dropped a 4-2 decision to Nathan Tomasello of Ohio State.

At 197, J'Den Cox (36-1) also lost for the first time this season when he fell 3-2 to Kyle Snyder of Ohio State.

Waters and Cox remain alive in the tournament in the wrestlebacks.

Missouri will enter the final day of the tournament in fifth place with 60 team points. Ohio State is first with 86.5, followed by Iowa with 73, Cornell with 66.5 and Edinboro with 64.5.
