Lincoln softball picks up second win

The Lincoln softball picked up its second win of the season by taking the second game of a doubleheader with the Quincy Hawks on Tuesday at Lincoln Field.

Quincy took the opener 14-1 in a game shortened to five innings due to the run rule, outhitting Lincoln 13-2.

The Blue Tigers' only hits were a double by Megan Heimbaugh in Lincoln's first at-bat of the game and an RBI single by Spencer Silva in the fourth that scored Sam Kircher, who had reached on an error.

Madison Ragar took the loss for the Blue Tigers, pitching the first 1 1/3 innings. She gave up six earned runs on four hits and two walks, striking out one. Lauren Stamp followed and gave up eight runs, although only two of them were earned thanks to four Lincoln errors. She allowed nine hits.

Lincoln then won the nightcap 5-4, racing out to a 5-0 lead before surviving a four-run sixth by Quincy.

Neither team scored until the fourth, when Lincoln got a two-run single by Macie Kinsey that scored Avery Myers and Kircher.

The Blue Tigers then tacked on three runs in the fifth. Silva had a sacrifice fly to score Allyson Corry, while Kinsey smacked another two-run single that once again scored Myers and Kircher.

The Hawks made it interesting in the sixth when they got those four runs and had runners at second and third, but Kinsey induced a groundout to end the rally.

Then in the seventh, Quincy got a two-out single, but Kinsey got a popup to finish the game.

Kinsey threw a complete game to get the win. All four runs were earned on 10 hits and four walks, and she struck out four.

Kircher had a team-high three hits as Lincoln outhit Quincy 11-10. Kinsey had two hits and four RBI, while Myers and Kassidey Borland had two hits apiece.

Lincoln is now 2-17 on the season, while Quincy moves to 11-9.

The Blue Tigers will host another non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. today against William Jewell.
