Cause of JC structure fire under investigation; reminder that burn ban is in effect

A structure fire and several other incidents kept Jefferson City Fire Department crews busy, Sunday.

• According to fire department reports, crews were called at 12:36 p.m. to a report of an apartment fire at 604 Linn Street.

The first arriving fire companies reported smoke showing from the apartment unit B.

Firefighters quickly confirmed that all occupants of the apartment building had escaped without injury.

The fire was found in a bedroom and contained to that room.

There was smoke damage throughout the apartment building.

The Red Cross responded to provide displacement assistance to the families involved with this fire.

The apartment did have working smoke alarms in the unit.

One pet in the apartment was found dead.

• The fire department also responded to several reports of illegal burning.

Those were reported in the 900 block of Air View Drive, 1700 block of Lisa Court, 700 block of Belair Drive, 1000 block of Holly Drive, 900 block of West McCarty Street, 800 block of Dean Drive, 100 block of Donald Avenue and 2600 block of Twin Hills Road.

Fire officials want to remind residents that burning season has ended and burning of yard waste is prohibited until November 1.
