ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police say a 5-year-old was fatally shot and two others were injured after someone inside an SUV that pulled up beside their minivan and opened fire.
Lt. John Green says police rushed the child to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Green says the family was leaving O'Fallon Park on Wednesday night when a black SUV pulled alongside their minivan on a street and someone inside opened fire. The child's father was driving the minivan and returned fire. The SUV then drove away.
A 15-year-old and another man inside the minivan were hit and were treated at a local hospital. Police say they were in stable condition.
The child's mother also was in the minivan. She and her husband weren't hurt.
An investigation is ongoing.
