DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - A burning tanker truck closed a stretch of Interstate 94 near the border between Detroit and the suburb of Dearborn.

The fire that sent flames and black smoke into the air and across the area appeared to be under control Wednesday afternoon.

Dearborn police and fire officials reported no serious injuries.

State police Lt. Michael Shaw said he believed the truck was hauling petroleum. The tanker burned with a car stopped sideways in front of it.

Michigan Department of Transportation spokeswoman Diane Cross said fuel spilled into the sewers, also creating fires.

Shaw said the first 911 calls came in about 11:15 a.m. Police were waiting for crews to extinguish the flames before investigating.

State transportation officials said the freeway could be closed for hours.
