Your Opinion: Taking a stand against personal attack ads

Dear Editor:

Thank you for printing the entire eulogy from Sen. Danforth and also thank you for the editorial written by the News Tribune management.

I encourage healthy debate about issues and differences of opinion about issues but the past few years have been filled with increasingly mean, hateful and demeaning attacks on people. This is wrong no matter what. If you have to attack a person, demean a person, make fun of a person, you have lowered yourself and lost the battle.

I was totally disgusted by the dirty politics which occurred with Judge Joyce and am even more disgusted by this recent incident which cost our state the loss of one truly dedicated human being. I hope that Sen. Danforth's plea is heard all over our state and country and that we begin turning this horrible tide of bullying into a positive change.

Politics are not the issue when people become the targets. It is no wonder that honest, decent people are not willing to run for public office when they are treated as "less than."

I personally will not vote for anyone who uses personal attacks or personal vindictive behavior toward their opponent and I hope others will do the same. We can make a difference.
