BizBeat: Dog grooming options abound

Canine Clippers, a dog-grooming salon located in Jefferson City at 1112 Missouri Blvd., closed in early February after the business' building was vandalized. But owner Marsha Nichols and fellow groomer Amber DeWitt are still available to serve clients at Crago Veterinary Clinic, 2402 E. McCarty St., joining the clinic's other groomer.

Human customers will be glad to know the move means the pet groomers now offer their services for cats as well as dogs.

Another former Canine Clippers groomer who worked there during the pet salon's previous ownership is offering yet another option for Jefferson City to preen its pets. Leslie Vieth on March 2 opened The Dirty Dog Grooming Salon and Doggie Daycare at 2422 Hyde Park Road Suite C, former home of Grooming Unlimited.

Fortuitously located near the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, The Dirty Dog is open from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but right now services are available by appointment only. Vieth plans to begin accepting walk-in customers within a month or so.

The business will also offer day boarding for interested pet owners.

"There are certain dogs that just can't stay by themselves," Vieth said. "Some dogs, when they get older, need medicine; and some dogs just can't go without going to the bathroom all day."

The Dirty Dog will host an open house for potential human and canine customers from 2-4 p.m. March 15, with refreshments for owners and treats for dogs.
