Helias girls fall to Eldon in district semifinals

KAISER, Mo. - The Eldon Lady Mustangs hit 14 free throws in the fourth quarter Thursday night to seal a 71-57 victory against the Helias Lady Crusaders in the semifinals of the Class 4 District 9 Tournament at School of the Osage.

Eldon (23-5), which finished 24-of-30 at the line in the contest, advances to Saturday's district title game against School of the Osage. Helias had two girls foul out and three other players finish with four fouls.

Helias led 14-12 after one quarter and 36-28 at the half. But Eldon outscored Helias 21-10 in the third quarter to take a 49-44 advantage into the final period.

Mai Nienhueser came off the bench to score 19 points to lead Helias. Luci Francka added 14. Nienhueser and Francka both had seven rebounds.

Sara Rhine had a game-high 26 points and eight rebounds for Eldon, while Taylor Pehle chipped in with 17.

Helias, the No. 3 seed, ends its season at 15-12.
