A Jefferson City man charged with discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle last May was sentenced to three years in prison.
Joseph Morris, 31, of 1604 Fawn Court, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Cole County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 1600 block of Gilbert Lane for a report of up to seven shots fired.
About a half hour later, deputies went to Morris' residence where they found two men fighting in the front of the home.
Eventually deputies searched the home and found a handgun and shotgun.
There was blood on the shotgun and a box of ammunition found in a closet.
The other man in the fight told deputies Morris started shooting the guns out the passenger side window of the vehicle in which the two had been in prior to the altercation. Why he fired the shots was not explained.
Deputies ended up finding seven spent shell casings in the vehicle.
Morris had eight prior felony convictions, including multiple convictions for stealing a motor vehicle and first-degree burglary and he was out on bond for felony DWI.
