Jays open district play with victory against Lebanon

On Tuesday night

CAMDENTON, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays closed the first half with a 15-0 run Tuesday night and defeated the Lebanon Yellowjackets 68-37 in the semifinals of the Class 5 District 10 Tournament.

With the win, the top-seeded Jays (17-8) advance to Thursday night's championship game against second-seeded Waynesville (19-6). Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Waynesville advanced with a 52-37 win against Camdenton in Tuesday night's second semifinal. Jefferson City defeated Waynesville 57-49 on Jan. 27 at Fleming Fieldhouse.

The Jays led 21-14 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the Yellowjackets 15-4 in the second quarter to take a 36-18 advantage into intermission. Jefferson City led 56-30 heading into the final period, most of which was played with a running clock.

O.G. Anunoby led the Jays with 17 points, including 12 in the first quarter. Eysan Wiley added 12 points, while Seth Stegeman hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11.

Chad Howerton paced Lebanon (7-20) with 15 points.

The District 9 winner advances to take on the District 10 champion in the sectionals Wednesday, March 11, at State Fair Community College in Sedalia.
