Lincoln tracksters named all-region

Fourteen members of the Lincoln track and field teams combined to earn 20 all-region honors as handed out by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.

The honors came about as a result of Lincoln's performance over the weekend in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Indoor Championships.

Jhevere Hall led the way with three all-region awards, earning the distinction in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run and 4x400-meter relay. Lovan Palmer, Monique Thompson and Willomena Williams also were recognized as members of the 4x400 team, with Williams also being named all-region in the 400.

Yanique Ellington and Janae Johnson also received multiple all-region honors from the women's team, with both being recognized in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Ladonna Richards and Junielle Barker, meanwhile, were both tabbed as all-region in the 60-meter hurdles.

Miguel Barton led the men's team with two all-region accolades, earning honors in the 400-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay. Roger Blake, Winston Edwards and Jeromia Riley were each also named all-region for their participation on the relay team, while Owen Smith was recognized in the triple jump and Orneldo Thomas was honored in the long jump.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned USTFCCCA All-Region distinction, along with the top three relays. A total of 519 female athletes and 547 male athletes from across NCAA Division II earned some form of all-region honors.

The Lincoln teams currently are waiting to see how many entries they will have in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala.
