Tuscumbia boys claim district crown

JAMESTOWN, Mo. - The Tuscumbia Lions won their second district championship in program history Saturday with a 56-40 defeat of Prairie Home in the Class 1 District 9 title contest.

Zane Humphreys and Orrie Patterson each notched double-doubles for the Lions, with Humphreys scoring 20 points to go with 11 rebounds and Patterson scoring 12 points and nabbing 11 rebounds.

Nick Grimwood and David Huddleston each contributed 10 points, and Benton Patterson had 10 rebounds. The Lions outrebounded Prairie Home 45-28.

Tuscumbia led after each quarter: 10-6 after one, 24-21 at halftime and 35-26 after three.

Kody Simmons led Prairie Home with 14 points.

The Lions (19-8) face Glasgow (23-5) in sectional play Tuesday at Sturgeon High School. Game time is 6 p.m. That will be followed by the girls contest between Tuscumbia (25-3) and Glasgow (18-9) at 7:45 p.m.
