Holts Summit mayor tenders resignation

Holts Summit Mayor Lucas Fitzpatrick has resigned, effective Tuesday, citing new job duties that have created a strain on his time.

Fitzpatrick has served as mayor since April 12, 2010. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2014.

In a letter presented to the board at its June 22 Board of Aldermen meeting, Mayor Fitzpatrick said, "Due to new job duties, responsibilities, limited time, and availability to perform my duties as mayor, I have decided this is best for my family and the citizens of Holts Summit."

A news release from the city said that in the five years that Fitzpatrick has led the city, there are improved opportunities for recreational activities, recycling services, bond approval of a major sewer project, approval of continuing a sales tax, the addition of a new city hall and municipal center. Also, the city has received more than $2 million worth of grant funds, and has formed an Enhanced Enterprise Zone in Holts Summit.

"This community has been progressing and will continue to long after I'm gone," he said in the release. "We have accomplished much for Holts Summit in the five-plus years since I have been mayor and I hope this will continue."

Mayor Pro Tem Landon Oxley will become acting mayor, and there will be a board meeting on July 20 to decide on options to move forward.
