Jefferson City's real estate market saw home sales soar in May, with residential units selling much more quickly and for higher average prices than the same time last year, and outpacing statewide home sales statistics for the month.

May 2015 home sales statistics from the Jefferson City Area Board of REALTORS are as follows:

Number of active listings: 639, an 11.5-percent decrease compared to 722 in May 2014.

Number of new listings: 178, a 20.9-percent decrease compared to 225 in May 2014.

Number of units sold: 140, a 50.5-percent increase compared to 93 in May 2014.

Average sales price: $159,257, a 14.5-percent increase compared to $139,038 in May 2014.

Average days on market: 87, a 17.9-percent decrease compared to 106 in May 2014.

Total units sold year-to-date: 508, a 21.8-percent increase compared to 417 in May 2014.

Statewide residential home sales statistics for May 2015 from Missouri REALTORS are as follows:

Number of homes sold: 7,232, a 5.9-percent increase compared to 6,832 in May 2014.

Average days on market: 117, a 5.6-percent decrease compared to 124 in May 2014.

Average sales price: $180,011, a 5.4-percent increase compared to $170,802 in May 2014.

Median sales price: $153,000, a 9.3-percent increase compared to $140,000 in May 2014.

Total units sold year-to-date: 26,777, a 7.6-percent increase compared to 24,886 in May 2014.
