Down to four at Missouri Amateur

HOLLISTER, Mo. - The semifinals are set for the Missouri Amateur.

Teddy Jones of Wildwood will face Mitchell Mather of Lebanon, while Alex Springer of Olathe, Kan., will take on Joey Johnson of Ozark this morning after Saturday's quarterfinals in the event at Buffalo Ridge Golf Course.

Jones, the No. 8 seed, advanced with a 3 and 2 victory against top-seeded Brevin Giebler. Mather, the fifth seed, was a 2 and 1 winner against 29th-seeded Gabe Wheeler.

Springer, the No. 7 seed, defeated 15th-seeded Travis Mays 1 up, while the 11th-seeded Johnson was a 2 and 1 winner against third-seeded Wilson Sundvold.

The semifinals are 18 holes of match play. The two winners will advance to the title match in the afternoon. That will also be 18 holes instead of the traditional 36 because weather delays Friday pushed back the schedule.

Johnson, who plays at Missouri State, is looking to be the first golfer in the history of the event to win three straight titles.
