Biplane crashes during northwest Missouri airshow

CAMERON, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say a biplane has crashed during an air show in northwest Missouri. Police said the only injury was to the pilot. No details were immediately available.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Cameron Police Chief Rick Bashor said the accident occurred about 1:50 p.m. during an aerial performance at the Cameron Airshow. Bashor said spectators weren't in danger since the pilot was in the designated performance area.

Bashor said the pilot was taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center. He did not give details.

Authorities were working to determine what caused the accident.

National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Keith Holloway says reports indicate the plane may have hit trees near the airport. Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Cory said an investigation has begun into the crash of the Pitts biplane.
